마일즈 데이비스 (Miles Davis) (Miles Dewey Davis III)
1926년 5월 26일 미국 일리노이 주에서 태어난 재즈 트럼펫 연주자이다. 1946년 1집 앨범 Bopping the Blues를 발표하며 데뷔하였다. 초창기 비밥재즈로 이름을 알리지만 뒤에 쿨재즈, 퓨전재즈 등 다양한 영역으로 발전해나가 재즈의 영역을 확대했다는 평가를 듣고 있다.
찰리 파커, 빌 에반스 등과의 교류도 활발하였으며 모드재즈의 시초이자 완성이라 불리우는 1959년 작 Kind of Blue는 재즈계의 길이남을 걸작으로 남고 있다.
1991년 9월 28일 캘리포니아 산타모니카 주에서 사망하였다. |
