1955년에서 1962년에 걸쳐 녹음된 존 콜트레인의 음원들을 [발라드] [하드밥&블루스] [그레이트 콜라보레이션] 세 가지 컨셉으로 나누어 수록한 앨범이다.
다양한 콜트레인의 스타일을 즐길 수 있으며, 3집 [그레이트 콜라보레이션]에서는 캐넌 볼 애덜리, 소니 롤린스, 마일즈 데이비스, 셀로니어스 몽크, 듀크 엘링턴 등의 공동 출연을 즐길 수 있다. 콜트레인 작곡의 "Blue Train", "Giant Steps", "Naima"를 비롯해 듀크 엘링턴과 협연한 "Ina Sentimental Mood", 콰르텟 구성의 "My Favorite Things" 등 히트곡들로 가득하다. 16페이지 부크릿 포함.
존 콜트레인 (John Coltrane)
미국의 재즈색소폰 연주자이자 작곡가이다. 1926년 미국 노스 캐롤라이나에서 태어났다.
디지 길레스피의 빅밴드에서 알토 색소폰주자로 활동했으며, 이후 자니 호지스의 밴드, 마일즈 데이비스 퀸텟에서 활동하였으나 마약복용등으로 팀을 탈퇴한다. 60년대 후반에 들어 프리재즈에 심취하여 , , 등의 앨범을 발표하였다. 그러나 마지막 앨범을 녹음하고 얼마뒤인 1967년 7월17일 간암으로 사망했다. |
